Maria Butt started Maria B in Lahore in 1999 (Wikipedia). The label now covers lawn, chiffon, embroidered formal wear and couture. A name this well known sells fast, which is exactly why copy makers go after it.
The copy trade is open and well organised. A 2016 Dawn report on Faisalabad described dozens of shops selling copies of famous brands and sharing replica pictures through WhatsApp groups. It said the main way to tell a copy from an original is the quality of the fabric, and that some shops pack copies with pictures of the original designer suit (Dawn).
That is the problem for a UK buyer. The photo on screen tells you very little. The checks below focus on what a copy finds hard to match: the design code, the fabric, the embroidery and the seller’s supply.

Start on the product page, before you spend anything. Maria B designs carry a code. The design name, the collection and the colours should all match. If the code leads to a different design, walk away.
Next, compare the small details, not just the main model shot. Look at the neckline patch, the border width, the print placement and the dupatta. Copies often look right from a distance and drift in the detail.
Then ask the seller for a photo or a short video of the actual stock, with the packaging in view. A seller who only has campaign pictures cannot show you what will arrive. A reverse image search can also show whether the seller’s photos were lifted from another site.
Fabric is where copies slip most often, because matching a print is easy and matching a weave is not. Check the fabric against the line you are buying, and judge each piece by what it should feel like, not by one rule for every fabric.
M.Prints. The shirt is printed lawn with an embroidered neckline and organza patti detail, paired with cambric trousers and a printed chiffon dupatta (M.Prints Eid Edit II). M.Basics. This line pairs a lawn shirt with light embroidery, cambric trousers and a dupatta (M.Basics lawn). The work is simpler, so the fabric carries more of the quality. A thin, rough or overly shiny shirt is a warning.
Luxury Lawn. Expect jacquard shirt fronts, organza patti borders and embroidered hems, with cambric trousers and an organza or chiffon dupatta (Luxury Eid Lawn). Organza is naturally crisp, so stiffness alone is not a fault. Check that every border piece is there and that the embroidery matches the official photo.

Whatever the line, check the lengths against the listing. Confirm the amounts of shirt, trouser and dupatta fabric before your tailor cuts anything.

Embroidery is the next thing a copy struggles with, because real handwork and dense machine work cost time and money. Look closely at the neckline, the borders and the hem.
On an original, the stitching is dense, even and neat on the reverse. Motifs repeat evenly, thread ends are secure, and sequins or beads sit firmly in place. Replicas frequently feature loose, messy threads and visible fabric glue around sequins or beads on the reverse side. A tidy back is hard to fake cheaply.
Then check the dupatta and the full set. A copy often saves money by swapping the dupatta for a lighter or plainer one, or by leaving out the borders. Match what arrives against the official description: shirt fabric, embroidered neckline or patti, trouser fabric and dupatta. If a piece is missing, the suit is not the design you saw.
One caution. A small difference does not always mean a fake, because dye lots and photo lighting vary between batches. Judge the suit on several checks together, not on one slightly different shade.
A fake can pass every photo check and still give itself away through the seller. Judge the person selling as carefully as the suit.
Price. Compare the listing with Maria B’s own price for the same design. A UK price a long way below the brand price is the clearest warning sign. Some sellers do run genuine sales, so ask why the price is low before you pay. A real seller can answer in one line.
Questions to ask. Which collection is this from? What is the design code? Where does your stock come from? Can you send a photo of the actual suit with the packaging? What is your returns policy? A genuine stockist answers all of these without fuss.
How you pay. Pay by credit card where you can. Under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, a credit card purchase between £100 and £30,000 gives you a claim against the card provider as well as the seller. Debit card payers can ask their bank for a chargeback. Avoid bank transfer to a personal account.
Your rights. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must match their description. If a suit sold as original turns out to be a copy, you can reject it within 30 days for a full refund (GOV.UK consumer rights). Keep the listing, the messages and the receipt.
